Austin, Texas, but moved to Houston, Texas at an early age. He initially
attended Rice University, but graduated from The University
of Texas. In 1969, after military service, he began his career with First
Mortgage Company, the largest commercial/residential mortgage bank in
Houston, becoming senior vice president of the commercial lending
department and representing national clients such as the Trammell Crow

joining as principal and minor partner in Pilgrim Enterprises development

developer in the U.S.,

provided Jim with the equity to start his own company.
In 1979, Mr. Nance founded Nance and Associates,
a commercial real estate development company in Houston
specializing in luxury apartments, class "A" office buildings, and joint
venture creations. Mr. Nance directed as principal the development and

In 1984, Mr. Nance moved his family to Washington,
North Carolina and has continued his real estate development and
management activities as Nance & Daughter, developing through partnerships
more than $100,000,000 in shopping centers, office warehouses, office
buildings, business parks, build to suit buildings, luxury apartments and
